This 1-day course is intended for drivers who already hold a Dangerous Goods Driver Licence, who would like to apply for their Explosives Driver Licence and Transport Explosives.
Participants need to complete both theory and practical assessments which includes the following:
- Working with Explosives; (Licencing, Legislation & Penalties, Specific Terminology Definitions).
- Classification of Explosives; (Divisional Characteristics and Hazards).
- Identifying Explosives; Marking, Labelling and Placarding; (Packages, Carry Boxes, IBC's, Containers, Vehicles).
- Utilisation of the Australian Explosives Code and the application of jurisdictional regulations.
- Documentation; (Transport and Emergency Information).
- Transport Procedures; (Security, Stowage and Segregation).
- Transport Vehicle Requirements.
- Transport Emergency Situations and the HAZCHEM Code and its application.
Upon successful completion, participants are issued a Statement of Attainment for the following unit(s) of competency:
TLID2016 Load and unload explosives/dangerous goods;
TLID3015 Identify and label explosives/dangerous goods.
This unit forms part of TLI31612 Certificate III in Driving Operations.
Participants of this course receive a copy of Explosives Drivers Manual.
HANDY HINTS WHEN LODGING YOUR APPLICATION
Applications must be lodged online - through the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (formerly known as DMP) within 6 months of the date of training.
You must have electronic copies or all accompanying documentation ready to attach for your electronic submission.
All accompanying application documents (e.g. Medical Certificate, Police Clearances and Statement of Attainment for your training) must be dated within 6 months of the date you lodge your application. Failure to provide these documents may delay the issuing of your licence, or prevent your application from being accepted.
If you have held a licence within any other state or territory other than Western Australia within the past 5 years, and are aware that you have incurred infringements, loss of demerit points or a conviction, you need to obtain copies of your driving record from that state or territory to accompany your application.

Eligible participants, working in the construction industry can apply for a subsidy of up to 70% of their course fee directly from the Building and Construction Industry Training Fund (BCITF) upon completion of this course. We can provide you with the application form on the day of your course.
You will require a USI prior to obtaining the Statement of Attainment. You can create your USI at http://usi.gov.au/create-your-USI/Pages/default.aspx it only takes 5 minutes. Please bring your USI with you when you attend your training course. |

Pre-requisites: | - Participants need to be at least 19 years of age; - Participants must have basic level of English Literacy and Numeracy skills and knowledge to be able to complete written theory assessment and understand spoken instructions in the practical component;and - Must wear suitable work attire and closed shoes to their course (preferably safety boots). |
What to Bring: | Strict ID requirements apply for this course. You will need either: 1 x form of photo ID (Australian Driver’s Licence, or any passport) plus 1 x form of non-photo ID (e.g. Medicare or ATM card); OR 1 x form of primary non-photo ID that includes your date of birth (e.g. birth certificate), plus 2 x forms of secondary non-photo ID (e.g. Medicare, ATM, or Health Care card) |
